Patients treated with checkpoint inhibitors can develop immunotherapy-related thyroid complications, including hyperthyroidism followed by hypothyroidism, as seen in the results of a recent retrospective study in which investigators rigorously evaluated the clinical presentation of these adverse events.
The investigators, from the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and Baylor College of Medicine, in Dallas, stressed that the data highlight “the importance of routinely assessing
