Language on Liver Transplant Websites May Present Barriers


Nearly 90% of liver transplant program websites use stigmatizing language about alcohol use disorder or associated liver diseases, according to a new study.

This kind of language is counterproductive, said the study investigators. The prevalence of stigmatizing language could dissuade people from seeking treatment.

“Sometimes when we talk about alcohol-related liver disease, [we as providers] use stigmatizing language that actually makes those patients who suffer from alcohol use disorder
