ASCO Panel Pushes Tighter Controls for Hazardous Drug Exposure

Alexandria, Va.—The American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) has weighed in on standards for handling hazardous drugs. Basically, the expert panel convened by ASCO agreed in principle with essentially all of the U.S. Pharmacopeial Convention (USP) General Chapter <800> standards, but they are pushing the field to even tighter controls.

Of the examples, the ASCO panel raises the bar on monitoring the efficacy of closed-system drug-transfer devices (CSTDs). They do not question the
