HIV Leads to Greater Risk for Death in Women With Breast Cancer

HIV infection was associated with a twofold reduction in breast cancer survival despite access to antiretroviral therapy (ART), according to a study in Botswana.

Additionally, researchers found that the disparity in survival rates was not explained via differences in cancer stage, subtype or access to cancer treatment.

The study was presented at CROI 2019, in Seattle (abstract 16).
